Annotation In the 1800s, blind people had few choices in life. But Louis Braille changed that. When he was thirteen, he developed an alphabet made up of dots and dashes that was easy to learn and to read and write. Over time, he refined it, doing away with the dashes. His creation, called "braille," paved the way to knowledge and independence for generations of blind people. For grades 4-7. For grades 4-7.
